Moving our library from Park to FCH

Work is about to start on creating our two new Student Centres and some new Study Spaces on campus. The Student Centres will incorporate all our in-person support and our libraries, and the Study Spaces will provide students with somewhere comfortable and convenient to work on their own and in groups.

Going forward, our libraries will be situated within the Student Centres at Francis Close Hall (FCH) and Oxstalls campuses.

Commencing in June, the library stock from Park campus is being relocated to Francis Close Hall Library. This process will start on 3 June and will continue into July.

Our estates, library, and student support staff will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum as stock moves from Park to FCH, but please do bear with them over the summer as these spaces are reconfigured.

Library book loans during June
As our books will need to be packed into boxes, moved, and unpacked at the other end, there will be a short period when they will not be immediately available.
Therefore, if a you need a book during this time, please use the library system to place a hold on the item. Library staff will find the book for you, and you can collect it from either FCH or Oxstalls library. In the same way, inter-library loan requests for print items will be made available for you to collect at FCH or Oxstalls libraries.

If you are unable to find the book or resource that you require, please contact your subject librarian, who will help you find what you need. Alternatively, email [email protected] and a member of the team will help.

The Park campus book drop-off box, for returning borrowed books, has been moved to outside Elwes reception (see location on our campus map) from Monday 3 June.

Reorganising the library at FCH
Books being moved from Park to FCH will be integrated onto our shelves over the coming weeks – likely to take until mid-August. As far as possible, we will do this while keeping the library open, but please bear with us as we get things in order, as the spaces may be a bit messy for a while.

It may be necessary to restrict access to some areas of the FCH library over the summer so we can have more space to sort through the resources. When this happens, we will put a notice on MyGlos and Staffnet – please check regularly and especially before you travel to FCH.

If you cannot find what you are looking for at FCH, either because you have previously been based at Park, or because we have reorganised the shelves, please do ask a member of staff for assistance. The team will be very happy to point you in the right direction.
