Wellbeing Zone and collection

This year in the FCH and Oxstalls libraries we will be trialling a Wellbeing book collection and space. As part of this trial we have purchased a core collection of resources intended to support students’ mental health and wellbeing. This collection covers topics such as study stress and university life, managing depression and anxiety, exploring sexuality and gender identity, and more.

You can browse and have a look at the resources selected for this collection by viewing the Mental Health and Wellbeing reading list

This reading list is intended to signpost students to resources, services and external supports which will help them on their learning journey and also teach life-long skills for managing wellbeing.

FCH Wellbeing Space

Oxstalls Wellbeing Space

FCH Wellbeing Space

At FCH the Wellbeing Zone will be located in Quad East, where Teaching Resources was formerly located. From the main library entrance go to the end of the corridor and turn left; then at the end of the next corridor (passing through the Quad Walk Gallery and South Porch) take another left; you will find the Wellbeing Zone at the end of this last corridor, by the secondary library entrance. You can also ask staff at the Student Centre desk for directions.
In this space there’ll be available colouring books, comfy seating and stuffed animals for students to cuddle, if they need a moment of quiet reflection or comfort.

Oxstalls Wellbeing space

At Oxstalls the Wellbeing Zone is located upstairs. From the main staircase turn left on the first floor, and you will find the Wellbeing Zone located behind the book issue machines. In this space there’ll be a range of comfy seating available so you can rest and recharge.

We encourage you to visit these spaces, browse the collections and check out a book if there’s a topic you want to learn a little more about. The books in these collections are available as one week loans, which will then auto renew weekly on the system.

Because we’re running this project as a trial run for the 2025/26 academic year any feedback you can provide on how you found the collection, spaces and reading list would be very welcome. You can do so by posting a comment card to the Suggestion Boxes at the Student Centre desks, through the feedback displays in these spaces, or by emailing any feedback or comments directly to [email protected].
