Second year, Mae Brown shoots the ‘Portrait to Promote’ brief for the Editorial with Moving Image module

For this brief I decided that I wanted to photograph a farmer in the Cheltenham/Gloucestershire area. This was to push me out of my comfort zone and to start building my base of contacts in this area, rather than photographing people that I know back at home in Wiltshire.

I’ve also found that recently I’ve been wanting to photograph a wider aspect of rural life rather than horses, and this brief gave me the opportunity to do so. My images show Dave (the famer), his favourite cow (Morag) and the yard that he owns and works on. I thought it was important to not just show Dave, but aspects of his life that inform him as a practitioner, such as the yard (to see his working environment) and his favourite cow – Morag.
