It was opened by the Earl of Shaftesbury in1850.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/specialcollections\/specialcollections\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/03\/Picture5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2719\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The university\u2019s archive holds many photos of the tower over its lifetime, and indeed photos of all its campuses. Appointments are available Monday 1pm \u2013 5pm, Wednesday 1pm \u2013 5pm and Friday 11am \u2013 5pm.
