12th<\/sup> March \u2013 2.30 am<\/b> \u2013 some very sleepy students and staff\u00a0 meet at the FCH campus refectory \u2013 for a 3am coach to Bristol Airport\u2026\u00a0 Oddly \u2013 everyone is on time, and has their passport\u2026<\/span><\/div>\n

The Avant train waits to take us to Cordoba<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

We get to Bristol, and take off at 6.30am \u2013 and then once we are in Malaga, we get the local train to the main Malaga station<\/a>:\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

We lurk here till our 14:30 train sweeps us north, then a short (!) walk takes us to Los Patios<\/a> \u2013 our home from home for the week. <\/span><\/div>\n
People are a little weary, so a short orientation tour, via Plaza de Corredera,<\/a> is enough for most \u2013 followed by an early night\u2026<\/span><\/div>\n

Sunday 13th March<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n
Long day starts with short walk to Alc\u00e1zar de los Reyes Cristianos<\/a> .<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Then, we head to the Torre de la Calahorra <\/a>museum – where we get a rather rosy view of the history in the ‘Golden Age’ of Al-Andalus… Here is the annual picture on the roof terrace:<\/span><\/div>\n

Followed by a wander to the newly refurbished\u00a0<\/span>Archaeological Museum <\/a>– which has a new underground section on the Roman theatre, and some much more sophisticated accounts of the region’s history.\u00a0<\/div>\n

Monday 14th<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

RAIN. plus everything was closed. More rain. Card games. More rain.<\/span><\/div>\n

Early train to Seville…<\/span><\/div>\n

We walked to the historic centre (without getting lost) \u2013 and began with the Alc\u00e1zares Reales de Sevilla\u00a0\u00a0– <\/a>which has interesting internal buildings \u2013 and stunning gardens: an amazing place.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

It takes most of a morning to explore the Seville Alcazar \u2013 then lunch<\/span><\/div>\n
Seville Cathedral<\/a> is huge! It has treasure rooms, and a lot to see \u2013 also \u2013 test your cardiovascular endurance \u2013 and walk to the top of the tower \u2013 the views are worth it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Wednesday 16th<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

Medina Azahara – http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medina_Azahara<\/a> is 8 miles west of Cordoba.<\/span><\/div>\n

A short walk to a daily tourist bus – and off we went…\u00a0Once there \u2013 there is a great museum \u2013 brand new, and interactive \u2013 with lots of resources: and the ruined city itself.<\/span><\/div>\n

\u00a0And back on the bus…<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n

We then went to the Museum of Jewish life <\/a>\u00a0Casa de Seferad\u00a0– to explore the Jewish heritage of the city \u2013 in the heart of the Jewish quarter. We had a short talk here, and saw some new exhibits on how Jews fared during the Spanish Inquisition (which we didn’t expect)\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
At 2pm We met Imma \u2013 our expert tour guide \u2013 for the tour of the Mezquita \/ Cathedral <\/a>\u2013 which is a highlight of the trip for many.<\/span><\/div>\n

Thursday 17th..<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

5am – meet in reception of Hotel – for 5.30am coach to airport – then home at FCH by 3pm…<\/span><\/div>\n
