To some extent it is a subjective matter (and I&#8217;m sure other staff and students have their own views here), but based on some student feedback, there are a couple of gems that are consistently praised.\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear:both;text-align:center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/rpe\/rpe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2018\/07\/dcaa1-nigelwarburton_51f66013c08dd.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"193\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/rpe\/rpe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2018\/07\/2a4cd-nigelwarburton_51f66013c08dd.jpg\" width=\"200\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:large\">Adopting a thematic approach, Nigel Warburton&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Philosophy-The-Basics-ebook\/dp\/B00EPE1VPU\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1380269506&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=nigel+warburton+philosophy+the+basics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Philosophy: The Basics <\/i><\/a>does exactly what &#8216;it says on the tin&#8217;: it&#8217;s concise, accessible, walks you through the basics, and encourages you to &#8216;do&#8217; philosophy.\u00a0<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\">Another favourite of many is Bertrand Russell&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/History-Philosophy-Routledge-Classics-ebook\/dp\/B000P0JNBM\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1380270116&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=bertrand+russell+history+of+western+philosophy\" style=\"font-size:x-large\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>History of Western Philosophy<\/i> <\/a><span style=\"font-size:large\">which adopts an historical approach and gives the reader a sense of how philosophy has developed over the years, although I should point out it was published in 1911, so you won&#8217;t get anything after that!<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear:both;text-align:center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/rpe\/rpe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2018\/07\/c1020-20008d78v04mobi300x400.jpg\" style=\"clear:right;float:right;margin-bottom:1em;margin-left:1em\"><span style=\"font-size:large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/rpe\/rpe\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2018\/07\/70869-20008d78v04mobi300x400.jpg\" width=\"150\" \/><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size:large\">To keep up with current developments you might like to take out a subscription to <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.philosophersnet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Philosopher&#8217;s Magazine<\/a><\/i>.
