Celebrating Brilliance: Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics Students Shine at Dissertation Poster Exhibit

‘The Loft’ at the University of Gloucestershire buzzed with intellectual energy this week as Level 6 (third-year) Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics (RPE) students showcased their dissertation ideas at the annual poster exhibit.

Presenting in a dynamic gallery space of ideas, visitors moved from poster to poster, exploring topics as varied as the Incel Culture and Nietzschean Philosophy, Catholicism and Cannibalism, and an Arendtian analysis of Factory Farming. This vibrant event, a cornerstone of the academic calendar, highlighted the culmination of months of rigorous research, critical thinking, and creative expression. The event celebrated student achievement and ambition with three awards all voted on by those who attended. The ‘Best Designed Poster’ rewarding artistic and aesthetic story-telling. The ‘Most Interesting Thesis’ recognized originality and scholarly impact and ‘Overall Best’ as a combination of the two. The prize? A book of the winner’s choosing, which went to Jesse Salter, Hannah Windatt and Aimee Dorrington respectively.

More than just a display of academic work, the exhibit underscored the importance of interdisciplinary learning and public engagement. Students honed their communication skills, received peer and faculty feedback, and connected their research to real-world issues. The University of Gloucestershire and Religion, Philosophy and Ethics community extends heartfelt congratulations to all participants for their dedication and ingenuity. A special thanks goes to Dr. Eleanor Higgs, the event organizer, who had thought of everything, from the tea and coffee, to discussion prompt cards. Even though many of the posters were taken home by the students as a reminder of their achievements the ideas they showcased continue to resonate with those attended.
