{"id":1483,"date":"2014-11-12T09:46:01","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T09:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/landscapearchitecture\/?p=1483"},"modified":"2014-11-12T09:46:01","modified_gmt":"2014-11-12T09:46:01","slug":"the-london-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/2014\/11\/12\/the-london-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"The London Trip 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Between 20 and 22<sup>nd<\/sup> October a group of 25 first year and conversion students on the Design Studio 1 module, took part in a precedent study trip to London with tutors and course leaders Allan Mitchell and David Booth.<\/p>\n<p>On the way we stopped at Northalla Fields, a public park constructed using the demolition material from the old Wembley Stadium and White City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1485\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled2.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled2\" width=\"209\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1484\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled1.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled1\" width=\"211\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stayed in the Generator Hostel, close to King\u2019s Cross where we were met by former conversion student Antony Bdzola. Anthony works for Applied Landscape Design who are responsible for much of the detailed design and site supervision on many of the spaces around King\u2019s Cross, including the new Plaza at Granary Square and Cubitt Park.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Applied Landscape Design also detailed the design of Jubliee Gardens, built on a roof deck above Canary Wharf station, a tranquil oasis in a bustling part of the city.<\/p>\n<p><a width=\"366\" height=\"206\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday we visited Katheryn Gustafson\u2019s memorial to Lady Diana Spencer in Hyde Park, a beautiful granite and water sculpture with an amazing range of cascades and rills which are meant to reflect the character and life of Lady Diana.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1495\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled12.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled12\" width=\"203\" height=\"153\" width=\"171\" height=\"146\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We then walked down Exhibition Road, a new \u2018shared space\u2019 with high quality paving and detailing, running from Hyde Park down to South Kensington Tube station. On the way we stopped off to look at the Courtyard in the V&amp;A Museum designed by Kim Wilkie.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full width=\"315\" height=\"235\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We then visited the Battle of Britain Memorial, designed by former University of Gloucestershire student Paul Day, (who also produced \u201cThe Meeting Place\u201d in St Pancras Station).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" then onto the South Bank, where we visited the new park alongside the London Eye, Jubilee Gardens, designed by West 8.<\/p>\n<p><a height=\"154\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Along the South Bank we stopped off at The Tate Modern and the beautifully detailed gardens to the new prestigious residential development at Neo-Bankside, designed by Gillespies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/landscapearchitecture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/445\/2019\/04\/untitled22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" landscape and fountains designed by Townshend Landscape Architects and Potters Field Park with its herbaceous gardens by Piet Oudolf.<\/p>\n<p><a
