Landscape into Sculpture
15 October – 26 November 2025

How might sculptors deal with landscape? How might they turn what they experience, as well as what they see, into sculpture? The sculptor Bill Woodrow has spent much of his life exploring these questions and this new exhibition demonstrates his recent investigations, with cardboard and paper as the chosen materials.

Woodrow inherited conceptualist and land art ideas as a sculpture student in the late 1960s and early 1970s. From the early 1980s, he was closely associated with the New British Sculpture movement. At that time, Woodrow used discarded materials for his sculptures in innovative ways, recycling them and cutting into them, often reconfiguring objects into surprising new pairings in the process.

This exhibition of recent works by Bill Woodrow launched the first presentation of the curated public programme in Elwes Gallery.
