DIRECTOR

dr Charles afriyie
Director of the FISRI and Senior Lecturer in Accounting
With over 20 years of teaching, research, and consulting experience within academia and the financial sector.
As Director of FISRI, Dr Afriyie has strategic and operational oversight in ensuring that the knowledge produced by our staff, students and partners creates the needed transformative impacts in policies, practices, and generally in society.
His priorities are liaising with the Advisory Board and Steering Group members, providing research training, disseminating academic outputs, and ensuring readily accessible support and resources for our researchers.
His knowledge production activities take an interdisciplinary approach in seeking to engage with experts from different domains to achieve workable impacts. This defined the scope of his doctoral research which yielded the emergent expertise framework for understanding expertise. This framework provides the blueprints for developing individual and group excellence in many professional contexts.
Integrating human intelligence and machine capabilities is an essential aspect of this framework. This permeates all of Dr Afriyie’s research, consulting and teaching activities. In 2016, he embedded data science competencies and artificial intelligence in all subjects he teach. Similarly, he prefers applications of emerging technologies when conducting and supervising quantitative research in predictive analytics, asset management and decision making in finance.
FISRI is committed to advancing the creation and dissemination of knowledge so that finance works for all.
