The impact of ‘Make an Impact Week’ 2023

Sara Hooke and Sarah Dibble (School of Business, Computing and Social Sciences) and Miriam Webb (Sustainability Engagement Manager)

Make an Impact Week is an immersive week for new Level 3 and Level 4 students joining the Business School and takes place the week after Induction Week to support student cohesion and relationship building. This year, the project received LIFT (Learning Innovation for Tomorrow) funding to engage students with fully joined-up challenges that address true sustainability across the triple bottom line – the environment, society, and the economy. Students worked in course teams to create an ‘elevator pitch’ 2-minute video in response to real life sustainability briefs from businesses in the local Gloucestershire community.

In this presentation, we will share the activities students took part in, examples of the sustainability briefs they worked on and some of the winning elevator pitch video entries. We will also discuss the impact and outcomes of the week, and how it helped support our courses in their wider Education for Sustainability (EfS) goals.
