If you\u2019re a regular reader, you\u2019ll know that we haven\u2019t posted for a while.\u00a0I, mistakenly, thought lockdown would provide more time. I quickly\u00a0realised\u00a0that\u00a0the same time\u00a0was\u00a0available, just\u00a0perhaps\u00a0greater flexibility in how to spend it!\u00a0I also learnt quite quickly the difference between working from\u00a0home and\u00a0working at\u00a0home during\u00a0a global pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re new to the blog, welcome.\u00a0We use this space to\u00a0share\u00a0information on what the University is doing to\u00a0address\u00a0inequality and create\u00a0more diverse,\u00a0inclusive\u00a0environments.\u00a0However, it\u2019s not just about\u00a0us\u00a0sharing information. It\u2019s also an opportunity for you to\u00a0share. If there\u2019s something that you are interested in, or feel passionate about,\u00a0on any aspect of equality, diversity or inclusion,\u00a0please get in touch via\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:equality@glos.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">equality@glos.ac.uk<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it\u2019s the start of&nbsp;a new&nbsp;term, I thought&nbsp;I\u2019d&nbsp;share the University\u2019s&nbsp;commitment to&nbsp;equality, taken from our&nbsp;Equality and Diversity&nbsp;Policy:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe University is developing a culture that actively respects&nbsp;and values&nbsp;differences,&nbsp;recognising&nbsp;that staff and students from different backgrounds, cultures and experiences bring valuable insight to the University\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We work to achieve this through our 3 strategic priorities:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) Recruit, retain, develop and support a diverse&nbsp;workforce.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) Improve our students\u2019 experiences; and&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) Aspire to, embed and\u00a0celebrate\u00a0our successes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have thriving and influential networks that inform our\u00a0work and\u00a0shape our priorities: Our Women\u2019s Network has\u00a0organised\u00a0valuable developmental events\u00a0which supports work to\u00a0close\u00a0our\u00a0gender pay gap; and our Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic student and staff Network\u00a0guides actions\u00a0in support of\u00a0Black Lives Matter\u00a0and reducing our awarding gap.\u00a0Members of this latter Network also lead our Learning Innovation for Tomorrow (LiFT) Project\u00a0focusing\u00a0on \u2018<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/moodle.glos.ac.uk\/moodle\/course\/view.php?id=34030\" target=\"_blank\">De-Colonising\u00a0the Curriculum\u2019.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We work hard to celebrate a range of culturally diverse events\u00a0and dates\u00a0from Eid through to International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and BiPhobia. With current restrictions,\u00a0these are likely to take place online this year. Again, if there\u2019s events you feel we should mark, please get in touch.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a proactive Student Union\u00a0and large\u00a0number of student societies who support the University in\u00a0all aspects of its equality\u00a0and inclusion\u00a0work. The Afro Caribbean Society were instrumental in the curation of\u00a0a suite of resources to educate on\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/rl.talis.com\/3\/glos\/lists\/622931D2-513C-E936-023F-69177EAE418D.html\" target=\"_blank\">Black Lives Matter.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University takes is community leadership role very seriously, and it\u2019s an integral part of the local community.&nbsp;At the start of 2020 we achieved&nbsp;the&nbsp;Disability Confident Leader status and were&nbsp;recognised&nbsp;as an \u2018Exemplar Employer\u2019 by the Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Project. We\u2019re&nbsp;proud to have been nominated this year for a \u201cWe Are One&nbsp;Organisational&nbsp;Upstander\u201d Award.&nbsp;We\u2019re&nbsp;awaiting the outcome of the judges\u2019 decision to find out who the winners&nbsp;will be.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve had\u00a0some significant achievements, but\u00a0recognise\u00a0there\u2019s always more to\u00a0do.
