{"id":1025,"date":"2023-12-08T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-08T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/?p=1025"},"modified":"2024-04-05T14:40:20","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T14:40:20","slug":"belonging-a-reflection-of-the-last-12-months-how-far-have-we-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/2023\/12\/08\/belonging-a-reflection-of-the-last-12-months-how-far-have-we-come\/","title":{"rendered":"Belonging: A reflection of the last 12 months  how far have we come ?\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">Hello,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Now this year is drawing to a close, I wanted to share with you some updates on the first year of our \u2018Belonging\u2019 Strategy, what our achievements have been and the progress over the last 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Key success for 2022\/2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Successful re-accreditation of Disability Confident Leader&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Focus on Belonging throughout June to profile Inclusion across the organisation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Reducing trend in our Median Gender Pay Gap for the fourth consecutive year down to 11.29%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Launch of our Allyship Pledge Scheme enabling staff to be an Ally, practising inclusive behaviours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">35% of staff have attended our Developing Inclusive Behaviours workshop.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"> We have focussed our efforts to embed inclusive practice throughout our recruitment process. We\u2019ve expanded the media channels we use, paid attention to our language, drafting shorter, easier to read job descriptions and adverts, increasing engagement and building relationships throughout the process. We\u2019ve changed our narrative, showcasing our students\u2019 work and our activities demonstrating our commitment to creating a sense of belonging for everyone, where they feel they can be the best they can be. You can read some of our editorial in Fyne Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In February 2023 the University was successful in gaining its re-accreditation as a <strong>Disability Confident Leader.<\/strong> We recognise individuality, ensure support is offered according to individual needs to achieve greater fairness in outcomes and making positive actions to improve inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"145\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/302\/2023\/12\/disability-confident-300x145.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1026 size-medium\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/302\/2023\/12\/disability-confident-300x145.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/302\/2023\/12\/disability-confident.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"\"><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In January, staff participated in our first Wellbeing month that aimed to improve the health and wellbeing of staff via health MOT\u2019s, keeping calm sessions as well as active session like Zumba, walking football and dog walks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Our chaplaincy team have worked tirelessly to create a sense of belonging for all at UoG. They improve the student experience and support through weekly activities at our sanctuary spaces. We highlighted some of the work undertaken to ensure our staff and students feel welcomed, respected, safe and empowered to share their cultures, heritages, and identities. We hosted a variety of interesting speakers and interactive workshops throughout the month as well as drawing attention to the plethora of resources available to enhance and support individual learning and education and inviting guests to take over the Equity blog.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"147\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/302\/2023\/12\/belong-300x147.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1030\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/302\/2023\/12\/belong-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/159\/sites\/302\/2023\/12\/belong.png 525w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This year at the Festival of Learning we launched our Staff allyship Scheme, that encourages staff to sign up to 4 pledges. We continue to apply our decolonising the curriculum framework and are developing pedagogy that reflects our understanding of the individuality of our students and their capacity to contribute to their learning experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Also, our annual Festival of Learning in 2023 focussed on \u201cThe Education of the Future\u201d, with equity and belonging distinct features of presentations and discussion over the two days. The Academic Exchanges and Lightening Presentations addressed engagement, professional identity, inclusive practices, and personalised learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As part of the work we have done around Inclusive Governance we have looked outwardly and engaged with key external stakeholders.
