{"id":560,"date":"2021-10-05T15:10:26","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T14:10:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/dataskills\/?p=560"},"modified":"2024-05-30T09:55:25","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T09:55:25","slug":"opening-the-appetite-data-skills-for-global-development-pilot-programme-13-17-september-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/dataskills\/2021\/10\/05\/opening-the-appetite-data-skills-for-global-development-pilot-programme-13-17-september-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Opening the Appetite: Data Skills for Global Development Pilot Programme, 13-17 September 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"font-size:1px\"><strong>CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students from Gazi \u00dcniversitesi, the University of Gloucestershire, L-Universit\u00e0 ta\u2019 Malta and Universidad Nacional de Educaci\u00f3n a Distancia took part in a pilot of the \u201cOpening the Appetite: Data Skills for Global Development\u201d training programme between 13 and 17 September 2021 as part of the Development Counts project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pilot involved completing an online self-study programme and joining live cross-country online tutorials each day. The activities in the tutorials varied from mastering new software to taking part in online data scavenges, and were designed to develop both data skills  and skills in teamwork, intercultural awareness and collaboration \u2013 which are also key to successfully using data for development. In addition, students worked in international teams to conduct projects on development data blind spots and presented their findings to the whole group on the final day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some reflections on the pilot programme from our student participants &#8211; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;It has been a very interesting experience! I would like to highlight the international aspect of the course. It has been very satisfying to work with people from different countries. In addition, we have been able to deepen a relevant project with current and real problems. I really enjoyed working on R although it was challenging.
