Content Summary
Our last big ticket event of the year is being organised by UoG and is on Wednesday 22nd May 10:30-14:30 and will be held in the brand new architecture workshop at UoG’s FCH Campus.
This event is a collaboration between three academic departments at the university and is a modified version of a very successful event.
The day will begin with a university lecture on sustainable development in the lecture theatre which will then be followed up by the competitive element.
ACE Day:
It is predicted that by 2050, 68% of the world’s population will live in urban areas. As such, the importance of sustainability and using space effectively has never been so important.
This event will help you understand what urban planning and regeneration are, and also how the built environment impacts on everything around us, and everything we experience. You will be given a plot of land with the aim of designing a space that will work for the local community in Cheltenham. However, you will not be the only planners with access to the land! Competing against others, you will need to convince a panel of judges why your plan is best for Cheltenham, how you will ensure it is fit for purpose and importantly, how it will be sustainable for future generations. As a team, you will design the space, create posters and present your final plan to ensure that you win the contract- there will be prizes!
The event will also be supported by three local employers, an architects, a planning and a construction company. All of these companies offer apprenticeship and degree apprenticeships and will be supporting/judging the contest.
This event will be pitched at Year 10 and Year 12, and each school can bring up to 6 students. Please engage Geography departments first and foremost. This work supports the A2 curriculum.
We will accommodate as many schools as we have in the partnership as we have space and staff to cover.
