Flying Higher
This theme focuses on enriching students beyond the school curriculum by introducing them to new experiences, environments and contacts. Flying Higher seeks to develop aspiration in students through diverse interactions with an informed portfolio of progression options considered.
The Flying Higher theme aims to:
- Broaden horizons by introducing students to new locations and experiences that they would not normally have
- Build connections between our school communities and key supporting partners in the town, including employers
- Help students consider the breadth of options post-18 and make informed decisions about their futures
- Create fun and exciting programmes that students will remember
- Encourage a positive attitude towards learning outside of the set curriculum

Flying Higher as a concept is embedded throughout our programme as everything, we do is designed to introduce students to something new and broaden their horizons. New subjects, locations, options and opportunities are provided by the CEP events with Flying Higher at their heart.

Some of the methods we use to achieve the aims of this theme include:
- Utilising universities, employers and other town partners in the development of programmes
- Creating opportunities for students to mix with those from other schools, in order to share perspectives
- Networking students with experts and other critical stakeholders that can benefit their futures
- Supporting a range of supercurricular subjects that push students beyond the syllabus
- Providing information on future study and vocational options students may not have considered
Examples of Flying Higher in action:
Sustainable Design Day
A hands-on day, where students get to try their hand as designing a new urban development. Students will get to experience landscape and building architecture, planning and development in this exciting day run by the ACE team at the University of Gloucestershire. Students will put their learning into action by competition to see who can use their new knowledge best when designing their new development!

Subject Opportunities
For several years, CEP has run GCSE Latin for students that would not otherwise have the opportunity to do it. This has been a very successful programme and has added to the richness of the local education offering. There are many further GCSE subjects we are looking to bring into CEP, so watch this space! We have also offered courses and events around astronomy, which has built into a new CEP Stargazers event, involving the UK Space Agency.

Speakers and Workshops
CEP has welcomed speakers and facilitators from a wide variety of backgrounds offering insights to students on areas they would not have considered before. We have had social media stars, politicians, experts in finance and sport just in the last year alone!
