CEP Newsletter – November 2023

Hello everyone, and welcome to the November update!

October was a very busy month, in which a number of our year-long programmes made their starts.

We began with the first of our Young poets events on October 6th at Cheltenham Ladies College, the quality of the poems produced in two short hours was stunning, and is a great credit to our facilitator Emma Taylor, to the teachers who performed their own poetry and most importantly to the young people themselves.

Next, we held the first of the year’s Great Debates at Bournside. Our topics centred around AI and data storage, and all 4 teams involved did and incredible job making their case. Thanks to Miss Brown at Bournside for her efforts and to all of those who attended

On the 13th of November, CEP continued its annual team up with VOICEBOX at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. After a fantastic live edition of Spill the Tea with the charming Hamza Yassin, young people from 5 schools took to the stage to share stories from their lived experience. It was a powerful afternoon, and the torrential rain really set the scene! Thanks to Emma at Cheltenham Festivals and to Miss Baynam-Williams for sorting everything out so well.

Last but not least, Cheltenham College hosted a fascinating day of medical, dentistry and veterinary information at its MDV conference on October 20th. We heard from a wide array of top quality speakers and the young people had a go at surgery themselves in a fantastic interactive workshop.
