We would love to see your records of birds, mammals, plants, trees, insects, reptiles, amphibians \u2013 in fact any wildlife you have in your garden, or see in the Cheltenham area during this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would like you to enter your records online. These records can be from anywhere in Cheltenham \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/s>for example, in your garden or viewed from a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every contribution you make will be of benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can log your data using iRecord which is a huge database\nof species records. Last year for example, over 2 million records were added.\nThese are available to planners, researchers and wildlife enthusiasts to help\nthem understand and conserve the wildlife of their region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your data will help us learn more about what wildlife there\nis in Cheltenham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey page will open at midnight on Monday 25th May and close on midnight Sunday\n31st<\/sup> May, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entering a record<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will first need to register on iRecord, which is free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve registered, you can add your own wildlife records\nfor others to see.  You can also see what has been recorded by others.\nYour data will be kept secure and will be regularly backed up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All wildlife sightings for non-sensitive species are shared\nwith other users and will be made available to National\nRecording Schemes<\/a>, Local\nEnvironmental Record Centres<\/a> and County\nRecorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before starting any work using\niRecord, make sure that you have registered a user account and can log in. You\ncan do this via the links from the iRecord home page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can visit the site online, or by\nusing the iRecord app produced by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology for iOS\nand Android.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entering 1 or a\ncouple of species records<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are entering 1 or a couple of\nrecords, click on Enter a casual record.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The screen displays a number of boxes\nfor data. Five of these have a red asterisk (*) next to them. These MUST be\nfilled in or you won\u2019t be able to save the record. All of the rest are\noptional, although the more you can complete, the greater the value of your\nrecord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nEntering multiple records<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are entering a list of species\nfrom one site, recorded by the same person, on a specific day, click on Enter a list of records (for a site on a\ndate).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This allows you to quickly enter a\nlist of species records collected at the same place, on the same date, by the\nsame person. You can then enter your data in the same way as if you were\nentering a single record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The locality data is on a separate\ntab\/page \u2018Where was it?\u2019. Once you click on this tab, you can\u2019t return to your\nspecies list until you have put data in all the essential (red *) fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After you have entered your records<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have entered a record, it will be reviewed by an expert. Expert verified records\ncan be used as evidence in planning enquiries, species atlases, and other\nofficial documents. Adding photos can really help with this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, every record is valuable and\ncan help us get a better understanding of the wildlife of Cheltenham. A record\nthat cannot be verified is still useful, for example in giving guidance for\nfurther professional surveying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
