Pittville Park bat walk

Before it gets too dark and cold there’s time for another bat walk.

Thanks to the Boathouse Café for once again staying open till late for us last night.

We can confirm that their vegan hot chocolate is epic.

Thanks to everyone who came out – we had around 30 people out in the park and spent several hours walking around the paths and lakes.

It took a while but the bats did finally come out and I thought we might be in for a quiet night. Quite a few pipistrelles and soprano pipistrelles flying over the paths, and Daubenton’s flying over the lake; no noctule’s this time.

Our new Echo Touch Pro bat detector can record the calls and display them on an iPad screen making identification much easier. It also produces a map showing the activity recorded. This detector allows me to record the bats calls and then analyse them back in my office confirming any species identifications.

In the end – it wasn’t such a quiet night
