{"id":1136,"date":"2020-06-17T10:15:14","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T09:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniofglos.blog\/alumni\/?post_type=project&#038;p=1136"},"modified":"2024-04-11T11:07:00","modified_gmt":"2024-04-11T11:07:00","slug":"helping-rhinos-survive-is-second-nature-for-richie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.glos.ac.uk\/alumni\/2020\/06\/17\/helping-rhinos-survive-is-second-nature-for-richie\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping rhinos is second nature for Richie"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Having graduated from Animal Biology at the University of Gloucestershire, Richie Fourie is now working with rhinos after taking his studies to the next level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richie is studying an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glos.ac.uk\/courses\/research\/rsesc30\/pages\/masters-by-research-or-phd-biological-sciences-postgraduate.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MSc by Research <\/a>and based in South Africa. &#8220;I loved the course as an undergraduate and the lecturers were absolutely brilliant in their teaching style and willingness to help us, so when I was offered a spot on an MSc by Res working with them, I was absolutely going to take it!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Richie has continued in the same subject area as his undergraduate degree, and he is following a lifelong passion to work with animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I love animals and South Africa, as I was born and raised there, so getting an opportunity to do research on a game farm&nbsp;on&nbsp;really cool&nbsp;nocturnal animals was a huge draw&nbsp;for&nbsp;me.&nbsp;Working and doing research on a game farm in South Africa is a real treat&nbsp;and something that is fulfilling the childhood dreams I had&nbsp;of being a ranger in the Kruger&nbsp;National&nbsp;Park.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it is an experience which will make memories for a lifetime, as well as working towards his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Getting to work with people so&nbsp;passionate&nbsp;about conservation&nbsp;has been an amazing experience.
