Legacies of Slavery in Gloucester
Working in partnership with Gloucester city council’s commission on race relations, this project began in 2020 to examine the heritage landscape of the city and the connections to transatlantic slavery.
These projects focus on uncovering the local legacies of British colonialism and empire, as well as examine the various ways in which global issues can be traced at the local level.

"Slavery and abolitionism in Gloucestershire" was conducted by Sam Burgess, Steve Hannis, Harvey Pearce, Tom Gullick, Ben Haidon, Jordan Rosewarne, Callum Hughes and Lydia Horwell.
A collaboration between History students at the UoG and the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum looks at the Seven Years war (1756-1763).

"African American Abolitionists in Gloucester" was conducted by Nick Tracey, Abbie Coleman, Bethan Burley and Becca Taylor.
"Remembering George Whitefield" was conducted by Frankie Stanley, Rebecca Chivers and Josh Oliver.
"Legacies of slave ownership within Pittville and Cheltenham" was conducted by Alfie Lansdown, Sam Payne, Jack Vincent and Will Clark.
As part of the exhibition at the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum running between 1st November 2023 and the end of March 2024, this digital story looks at the life of Ukawsaw Gronniosaw who served with the regiment.
